Lapland Hotels Sky Ounasvaara

Lapland Hotels is a chain of hotels found all across Finland, and every time, it’s a guarantee of quality. I’ve never been disappointed; their establishments are always modern, elegantly decorated, and welcoming. Recently, we spent two nights at Lapland Hotels Sky Ounasvaara in Rovaniemi, and I must say it was really cool!

Located on Ounasvaara hill, the Sky Ounasvaara hotel offers the best of both worlds: closeness to the city center (5 minutes by car) and the serenity of nature. The hotel has direct access to ski slopes and beautiful hiking trails right at its doorstep. If you go there, having a car seems necessary, especially in winter, as the city center is just over 3 km away and there’s not much else nearby.

We spent 2 nights in the summer and it was really great. If you’re looking for a hotel for your stay in Rovaniemi, I can’t recommend this place enough. I’m sure it is beautiful in winter!

The Room

We were fortunate to stay in a spacious room with a breathtaking view of the forest, thanks to a large window. Since our visit was in the summer, we were able to admire the beautiful glows of the midnight sun. I can only imagine how magical the view must be in winter with the forest covered in snow. If you go there, I recommend asking for a forest-side room if possible, as not all of them offer this view.

The room was comfortable and tastefully decorated, true to the Lapland Hotels style that I particularly love. It’s always a pleasure to find this design when I stay in a property of the group.

We had two beds side by side, which is quite common in Finland and genuinely nice for sleeping. The beds were cozy; really nothing to complain about!

As for the bathroom, it was equipped with a toilet and a shower in the same room, quite standard, but with a special little touch: an integrated sauna that opens into the bedroom. A nice addition to the space.

The hotel also has a public sauna, but what’s better than a private sauna in your room? It’s especially nice in winter, after a day spent outside!

The Breakfast

When we stay at a hotel, breakfast is a ritual we never miss under any circumstances (even though we’re often the last to arrive because we tend to get up late).

Breakfast is offered in the form of a buffet, and there’s plenty of choices! Sweet, savory, there’s really everything you want. It’s a real pleasure to start the day like this. The breakfast room is superb with its huge windows overlooking the forest. In winter, it must be really beautiful as well.

The Hotel Services

The Sky Ounasvaara hotel has several ultra-cozy common areas to relax in and a small bar near the reception.

Upstairs, there’s a very nice outdoor terrace for having a drink in the summer. It’s also open in the winter and is a great spot for watching the Northern Lights. If you’re there in winter, don’t hesitate to go up there!

Sky Kitchen & View Restaurant

The hotel has a restaurant where you can have dinner (whether you’re staying at the hotel or not). We had dinner there on the first night with the surprise menu. There were few people that evening, and we had a good time.

We really liked the surprise menu; I’ll include some photos, but I won’t tell you more to leave you with a bit of a surprise. Special mention for the superb view (the same one you get for breakfast). It was a really enjoyable moment, especially since we hadn’t had dinner at a restaurant for months.

Rates, Information, and Availability

In terms of pricing, rooms can be found starting at €146 (breakfast included) if you book early and depending on the season. The winter season is often more expensive, so don’t delay in booking, especially if you’re looking for the month of December, which is very popular. You really need to plan well in advance.
