Lapland Sweden
Swedish Lapland, located at the northernmost part of Sweden, offers a truly wild and untamed experience. It’s a bit less well-known than Finnish and Norwegian Lapland, so you might find fewer tourists here.
To get to Swedish Lapland, you can fly into Luleå or Kiruna airports. Both have flights connecting from Stockholm, the capital of Sweden.
Kiruna is a town that’s known for its mining heritage and its amazing Icehotel, which is rebuilt every year from blocks of ice. It’s a unique place to stay, or you can just visit to see the beautiful ice sculptures.
Luleå is another interesting town to visit. In winter, the sea around Luleå freezes so thick that you can walk, ski, or even drive on it!
Abisko National Park is another highlight of Swedish Lapland. It’s one of the most accessible places to experience true wilderness, with snow-covered forests and frozen lakes. It’s also a great place for winter activities like cross-country skiing and dog sledding.
The indigenous Sami culture is also more prominent in Swedish Lapland. You can learn about their traditions, meet their reindeer, and try their cuisine.
Although it’s less visited, Swedish Lapland is a magical place. It’s similar to Finnish Lapland, but more peaceful and less crowded. Remember to dress warmly though, as winters can be harsh.
